Before I left Thailand, I wanted to learn more about elephants so my friend and I headed out to Phang Nga Elephant Park. This is a place where they promote ethical elephant tourism. They explained that properly conducted tourism is the best chance to protect elephants that were in the logging industry. Once an elephant has been domesticated you cant release them back into the wild due to a very low chance of surviving. Elephants will eat 200-600 pounds of food a day, which can be every expensive. Therefore properly conducted tourism increases their chances of surviving. The Phang Nga Elephant Park is committed to the elephants welfare and education. After a full day at the park I truly believe in the work they do, and it was visible to see that their elephants were happy and healthy.
My overall experience in Thailand was absolutely amazing. At the end of a long week I would feel proud of the work I accomplished. I made amazing friends that I still keep in touch with and I was able to learn more about the Thai culture during through work touring around.
